Family to Family Network’s Mary Jane Williams & Judy Blake represent families on a variety of disability issues when speaking to the media. Thank you to all the media outlets that reach out to learn more about issues impacting children and adults with disabilities. Texas is last in the nation for providing for the most vulnerable, according to the Case for Inclusion. This is due to the institutional bias in the state.
Texas has 13 state institutions, called State Supported Living Centers, that provide residential support to less than 3000 residents. There are over 15,000 state employees (with state union benefits) working at these institutions. Two of the institutions (Mexia and San Angelo) are forensic faciliities, meaning that individuals that have been involved in the criminal justice system and placed in these facilities. There are over 150,000 Texans waiting for community long term support services which can keep them living, working, playing and praying in our local communities. Family to Family Network helps families & individuals find and connect with other services while they wait for long term services.
